What is Embrace?
Embrace is a social peer support group which has been established to provide Parents, Carers, Guardians and family members of Transgender & Gender Diverse young people in Wales with the opportunity to discuss their feelings, learn from each other and build friendships and social networks to support them through their journey.
Who can attend?
The group is open to anyone who might wish to attend in person.
If a young person connected to you identifies as trans or gender diverse or is questioning their gender, you might have lots of questions…
Do you want to know how to respond? Do you have questions about what to do to support them? Are you struggling to understand how they are feeling? Are you worried about what this will mean for them? Do you want to speak to others who’ve been through similar experiences?
Well, we’ve got the place for you!
When does the group meet?
The group runs on the fourth Wednesday of each month in Newbridge Memo from 6.30-8.30pm. Refreshments are provided, so please let us know if you are coming and have any access or dietary requirements.
How do I join?
It’s easy to join the group. You can sign up to our mailing list by clicking the link below. You will be asked to fill out some details so we can contact you with information about upcoming meetings and events.
How do I register to attend a group?
We like to know how many people are coming so we can plan any activities and resources for the meeting, so if you would like to attend, please click below to register.
What if I can't make it in person?
If you can’t make any of the meetings, you can still join the discussions on our closed Facebook group.
You can request to join the facebook group by clicking the link below, but please include a short reason for asking to join. We have closed the group to protect the privacy of all members.
I'm a professional, how can I refer someone?
Firstly, it would be great if you could advertise the group. The more people who know about the support available, the wider the range of experiences that can be shared at the groups.
Umbrella Cymru is here to help anyone of any age including young people and adults connected to them. We offer a range of emotional and practical support services that are tailored to individual needs which can be carried out in school, in college, at home or anywhere else.
Some people might just need to talk to someone about how they feel. Others may want more information about what it means for the person they care about to come out, and particularly what they are going through. Other people may require more practical support such as help to explain your situation within school or college or to other family members.
